Founded in 2012, The FIA World Endurance Championship is the world’s leading sportscar competition.  2018 sees the introduction of the WEC Super Season, named not for the many, varied, high-level entries which will be competing but for the fact that the season will stretch over 14 months, beginning in May 2018 and ending with the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2019.

2018-2019’s calendar features prestigious and historic circuits around the world including, for the first time since 2012, Sebring International Raceway in Florida. The WEC will join IMSA in putting on a spectacular weekend festival of motor racing – the 1500 Miles of Sebring taking place immediately after IMSA’s traditional 12-hour race.

Jota Sport, in conjunction with Jackie Chan DC Racing will again run two Oreca 07 LMP2 cars which will be powered by a 4.2-litre V8 engine which will boost the power output to around 600bhp.

Prototypes are divided into two categories:

LMP1 – for Manufacturers
LMP2 – for teams independent of manufacturers and/or engine suppliers

The championship is broken down in to five classes: LE MANS PROTOTYPE 1 ( LMP1 – Hybrid: with Energy Recovery System (ERS),  LE MANS PROTOTYPE 1 (with no Energy Recovery System (ERS) reserved only for private teams) “LE MANS” PROTOTYPE 2 (LMP2 – a racing car with no production minimum required. It is a closed cockpit car, destined only to teams ind ependent of manufacturers and/or engine suppliers and for bespoke th oroughbred prototype sportscars, LMGTE (Le Mans Grand Touring Endurance) for both Pro and Am categories.

LMP2 teams must be made up of two or three drivers. One of the squad must be a silver or bronze categorised driver.

Each team must designate two drivers to take part in the qualifying session.

The two drivers from each crew must each set at least one timed lap during qualifying.  The average of the two best lap times (the best from each driver) will serve as the reference time for establishing the grid.

Each qualifying session lasts for 20 minutes and includes a pit stop to change driver
